Agility

Opening Hours: Tuesday & Wednesday 10am-8pm 1 Hour Sessions – Booking Required!

Prices: £10 – 1 Dog

At Beechgrove Doggy Fun Park our Agility sessions are a great way to have fun with your dog whilst improving health, fitness and bonding!

Beechgrove’s way of Agility is performed at a fun level, this training is not to compete to competition level, it’s simply to enjoy and have fun learning something new with your dog.

We realise that not all dogs will learn the same way and at the same pace, which can make competitive agility training or group classes difficult for some dogs. Each dog and handler can learn to understand each other and the equipment at a pace that suits them, introducing games and new ways of making you both think about what signals you give to each other and your mutual understanding as you progress through the sessions.

One of our friendly team members will be able to assist you during your session, helping guide you on how to teach your dog to safely use our full agility course in a way that suits you both.

Our agility training is based on having fun with your dog; all of the training methods we use are positive training methods only. Corrective or aversive training has no place in agility - we will help you to encourage your dog to work happily with you.

Our agility obstacles are hand-built and designed specifically for dogs of all ages and capabilities to be able to use and enjoy. Our main Agility Course also includes one-of-a-kind pieces of equipment that have been designed to be something a little different and with fun in mind. We also have a Small Dog & Puppy Obstacle Course and some alternative courses. Our course surface is simply natural grass, meaning less risk of hurt or burnt paws through running on rough surfaces. All courses are based in one of our fully enclosed play areas with 8ft high fencing - perfect for learning equipment safely off-lead.

As the session is privately booked we are able to offer agility training to dogs who find being in a group environment difficult, dogs who are very timid or scared of other dogs can spend some quality time with their human without the fear of other dogs inhibiting their learning, and dogs who are dog-aggressive can enjoy a sport that they previously may not have been able to.

Who is Fun Agility for?

Dogs

Any healthy dog who takes to it! Many people think that you need to have a working breed of dog for them to participate, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. We have worked with all types and sizes of dogs including Staffie’s, Huskies and Jack Russell’s. All of them loved it, and while only some show the aptitude to progress further, all the others enjoyed it immensely, learning to think, burning off lots of energy, and showing improved behaviour in their everyday lifestyle.

Humans

All abilities and ages of people are welcome to join in with these sessions, if you have difficulty running and feel agility may be too fast-paced for you, this is not an issue during these sessions. We can help your dog learn to slow down and think, to go more at your pace when required, and for the less able we can run your dog for you if it helps.

Puppies

Certain obstacles like jumps and the see-saw are not recommended for puppies under 1 year of age. There are several reasons for this, one of these being that their muscles, tendons and bones are not fully strengthened/developed until at least this age, so a fall or jump could seriously injure them.

This, however, doesn’t mean that they can’t take part as we have a Small Dog and Puppy Obstacle Course. From about 12 weeks, you can begin introducing them gently to obstacles such as the tunnel and weaves, you can also help teach them some basic obedience which will come in handy when they’re old enough to fully participate.
